This is in my "I have to go there again" places. I was awestruck.
Mt. St. Helens erupted on Sunday, May 18, 1980. The eruption column rose 80,000 feet into the air. Ash was deposited in 11 states. There are great pictures and videos online should you want to see more.
My cousin was a young girl when the eruption occurred. She didn’t hear anything, but she saw the sky go completely black and it stayed black. The air was filled with ash and an acrid smell. She was filled with fear and will never forget this memory.
These pictures show the remains of what had been a brand new A-frame house. The owners timely departure for reasons other than volcanic eruption saved their lives. They returned afterwards to find their new home filled with 200 tons of ash and mud. This has been one of my favorite places to visit so far.
